About Soul Strength Fitness

5 years ago, I was walking through the public library with my new baby in a sling, my toddler and my husband. Casually we walked by a display of new books and setting out front was The New Rules of Lifting for Women. My husband picked it up and suggest I read it, knowing that I had really been enjoying running, that I might enjoy learning a little about weight lifting.

5 years ago, he had no idea what that would turn into. Aside from my home there is no other place on earth I would rather be than in a weight room. I am very comfortable there. I love all things fitness, and have tried just about everything under the sun. Except a marathon, I just don’t have the desire to do that. Not sure why…

Anyway, I did the NROL program religiously after the birth of each of my children. I am a HUGE fan of Lou Schuler, Cassandra Forsythe, and Alwyn Cosgrove. I highly recommend their books; those by far have given me the most information on weightlifting.

A few years ago I made friends with a very sweet girl at my gym. She had just moved to town and started up Billings Adventure Bootcamp. She was currently training for a Figure Competition, and very graciously allowed me to train with her. I thought I was in pretty good shape until I trained with Casey Tuttle. That girl can kill it in the gym. She showed me what it is to manage lifting, and life. It’s a fine balance, and one that I have yet to master. But like most everything, it’s a process, you never fully arrive. Through Casey, I was introduced to Scott Abel style workouts.

Let me just say that I have the utmost respect for the bodybuilding world. While I will not be entering it, I am intrigued by it. I want to lift and live like I am going to compete, just don’t have the “want to” to rock a bikini on a stage. Most mothers of 5 would surely understand where I am coming from here.

Once again, let me just I am not a professional, Just a mama who gets er’ done. Welcome!
